On November 28th,The 5th Annual Akron Chriskindl Market opens with a bang - and lights, and music, and Santa throwing fireballs to light the night sky - with the Holiday Lighting Spectacular!
America's most authentic German Christmas Market,The 5th Annual Akron Chriskindl Market, Presented by the First Merit Foundation and sponsored by the City of Akron, is an affordable family-friendly experience that has made Lock 3 Park a destination for more than 200,000 visitors from 40 states and 160 cities. Some 40 artists, craftsmen, entertainers and chefs from Akron’s sister-city of Chemnitz, Germany, will travel 4,500 miles to sell items manufactured in small “factories” located in the Erzgebirge Mountains.
Culinary experts prepare authentic German bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato pancakes, soups and other one-pot meals, as well as the traditional oval Stollen with raisins, almonds & spices. Also prepared is a staple at every German market, warmed Gluehwein, mulled wine.
The Chriskindl Market also features:
- The largest Advent-type calendar in the United States, “Countdown to First Night”
- Ohio's largest seasonal outdoor ice rink (FREE, skate rental for $2/pair)
- Dozens of musical, dance, and arts events, including a Winter farmers' market
- A Kinderzone for the kids and children's lantern parades
- A Carousel, traditional to European holiday markets
- The Magic Train to ride through the park every weekend evening
